An Introduction to the Supreme Council of Islamic Humanities

The Supreme Council of Islamic Humanities was established on May 1, 2019 after repeated requests by a large number of seminary and university professors and lecturers and with the approval of the Policy-making Committee of the Fifth International Congress of Islamic Humanities. The formation of the Supreme Council of Islamic Humanities was aimed at preserving the Islamic humanities discourse and stepping up and coordinating efforts to make Islamic humanities integral to Iran’s higher education. The objectives and policies of the council as well as its principles come as following:

Main objectives of the Supreme Council of Islamic Humanities

    1. To expand and deepen the Islamic humanities discourse in Iran and the Muslim world and keeping it vibrant and alive
    2. To channel efforts and help with effective evaluation and revival of the Muslim world’s scientific heritage in light of religious science in both theory and practice
    3. To help create a theory to craft Islamic humanities in all aspects
    4. To channel efforts and help produce knowledge and create renovation with regard to answering key theoretical questions in various majors of Islamic humanities
    5. To pave the way for using Islamic humanities research in public policy and governance
    6. To pave the way for critiquing secular humanities in theory and practice
    7. Making it possible to do comparative studies involving both secular and Islamic humanities

Major policies

  1. To identify, introduce and support competent and successful theorists of various majors of humanities
  2. To stick to scientific standards and the principles of quality-orientation in all activities related to humanities
  3. To pave the way for free thought among different thinkers in the field of humanities and to impose Islamic humanities on scientific environments
  4. To boost the level of criticism and exchanging views among scholars of Islamic humanities
  5. To create an environment where criticism and competition is welcome for the purpose of allowing the capacities of top theories Islamic humanities to be fulfilled
  6. To pave the way for cooperation, interaction and synergy among seminaries and universities and their research centers on the development of Islamic humanities
  7. To give identity to scholars of Islamic humanities and to increase scientific and discourse cooperation among them
  8. To avoid being stuck in politics and partisanship and to stick to the scientific principles and rules and to ethics of research
  9. To identify and introduce successful models of discourse-building, education and research
  10. To give shape to the current of Islamic humanities in universities and seminaries and other academic institutions as well as at the international level
  11. To identify and effectively use the possibilities of the Muslim world in terms of shaping and developing
  12. To help design and launch new majors in Islamic humanities at graduate levels in Iranian and foreign universities
  13. To educate competent lecturers of Islamic humanities and to write textbooks and auxiliary texts
  14. To effectively work toward expanding and deepening critical work on Western and secular humanities and to do comparative studies of Islamic and non-Islamic views at universities
  15. To cooperate with the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution’ Expert Council of Change in Humanities for the purpose of changing in syllabuses and curriculums in line with Islamic humanities
  16. To create proper practical fields to objectify Islamic humanities in the management systems of Iran and other Muslim countries
